Sunsational - San Juan Islands

The San Juans (as they are known here in the Northwest) comprise a small group of beautiful islands north of here and reachable by ferry service. Some of the prettiest sunsets in the entire Pacific Northwest can be found from the beaches of any number of these small islands. It's a wonderful area to be - the pace just seems slower. I'd love to live on a small island like one of these, but I'd have to win the lottery to do so. It's a bit pricey! PURCHASE HERE

"Amethyst Beach" miniature oil

"Northwest Currents" 18 x 24 Oil on Canvas

This is what I *often* see of my Northwest when I venture off to the beaches here. The clouds in the skies are grays with hints of blues and teeny splotches that lean towards purples spilling through what everyone calls 'gray'. The deep greens of the water - and depending on the time of day, can vary from a warm to a cool green. The reason I am told, is that we have much more flora growing in the water than further south. Must be true, because our water definitely smells more *oceany* than in California. That's the smell that everyone assumes is a fish smell, but it's not - it's decaying flora.
